Organic Red Chesnok Garlic (lb)

Gloriously striped and especially wonderful for roasting, Organic Red Chesnok is a hardneck garlic that earns its place in both the garden and the kitchen. The creamy bulbs open to reveal 8–10 beautifully arranged cloves wrapped in vivid red-to-fuchsia skins, while tender garlic scapes offer an early bonus harvest. This Georgian heirloom is a fabulous choice for gardeners who like their crops to be as pretty as they are useful.

Raw, the cloves have a clear, balanced heat and a rich finish. Roasting transforms them into something smooth, sweet and deeply garlicky—perfect for spreading on bread, folding into potatoes, enriching soups and sauces, or making silky garlic confit. Plant the cloves in fall in a sunny, well-drained bed; hardneck types benefit from winter chill. Harvest the scapes while tender, then lift the bulbs around mid-summer when several lower leaves have browned and cure them in a shaded, well-ventilated place.

Open and inspect your garlic or shallots promptly. If an item arrives in substandard condition, keep garlic heads intact, photograph the item and packaging, and contact Customer Service within 3 days. Approved arrival claims are refunded at the product purchase price, excluding shipping.

Limited seed garlic germination guarantee

Seed garlic planted by November 15 is covered for germination. If more than 50% of the cloves fail to germinate, contact us within 45 days of purchase or delivery and no later than December 31. Approved claims receive store credit for the seed garlic purchase price, excluding shipping. Photos or planting documentation may be required. This guarantee does not apply to shallots or cover later growth, bulb size, or harvest yield.

Seed garlic and shallots are seasonal preorder items. Standard shipping is a flat $14.99 per order, regardless of quantity or weight. Expedited shipping is available for an additional charge.

Fall shipping schedule

Shipping is expected to begin after September 15, starting with colder USDA growing zones and moving to warmer zones as planting windows approach. Later-arriving varieties may delay an order until all items are ready. Dates are estimates and may shift with harvest timing, weather, or quality inspections.

If you are purchasing garlic or shallots with other plants or products, we recommend placing separate orders. This prevents other items from being held until the garlic is ready and avoids the time and potential expense of dividing a mixed order later. It can also save you money when plants require expedited shipping for cross-country travel.

Open your package promptly and keep bulbs whole in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place until planting. If anything arrives damaged, contact us within 48 hours and include photos.
