FAQ's
About Annie’s Plants: Annie’s no longer grows everything in one single, centralized nursery—but we are still deeply involved in how our plants are raised, from selection to cultivation to the moment they’re ready to join your garden. We work with a small network of carefully chosen partner growers, who meet Annie’s high standards for quality and thoughtful cultivation. We stay close to the details that matter: strong roots, sturdy growth, and plants that arrive ready to thrive. Depending on the plant, they’re started from seed, plugs, or cuttings and grown in natural conditions that help them harden off beautifully for life outdoors. We do not offer plants grown from genetically modified or engineered seeds, or plants that have been subject to growth-regulating hormones or neonicotinoids.
Our model has evolved. Our standards have not.
Our Guarantee:
We guarantee that the plants we sell are healthy and viable at the time they leave our care.
If a plant arrives in substandard condition, please take clear photographs and contact us within 48 hours of delivery. To ensure eligibility under this guarantee, we strongly encourage you to open and unpack your shipment immediately upon delivery and inspect the plants thoroughly.
Our goal is for customers to receive healthy plants that take root and thrive in their gardens. For approved requests, we typically resolve issues by replacing the plant. If a replacement is temporarily unavailable, we may schedule it for shipment once inventory is ready—often within a couple of weeks. If a replacement isn’t possible, we will issue a refund of the plant purchase price (shipping costs are non-refundable).
Requests submitted after the 48 hour window cannot be accepted, as it becomes difficult to determine whether issues occurred during transit or resulted from handling, storage, or care after delivery.
Not Covered Under This Guarantee
This guarantee does not cover the following:
- Natural variation in plant characteristics, including bloom color. While we list the most common bloom color for each variety, some variation is normal (for example, flowers described as orange-red may display a range of tones).
- Variations in plant size, growth rate, or maturity at the time of shipment.
- Natural, seasonal variations in growth activity, which may include slower growth, limited new growth, or temporary leaf drop during certain times of year.
- Plant loss or damage due to weather or temperature extremes occurring after delivery, including frost, heat, wind, or other environmental exposure once plants are in the customer’s care.
- Shipping delays, misdeliveries, or undeliverable packages resulting from incorrect or incomplete shipping addresses provided by the customer.
- Plants ordered that are not suited to the customer’s growing zone or climate.
- Damage caused by insects, animals, or other environmental factors after delivery.

Plant Availability
Our plant inventory is updated daily. To see what's currently available, click on the Availability filter and choose the “In Stock" filter from the dropdown. To further narrow your search, use the additional filter buttons. To remove filters, simply unclick them. The All Plants collection shows everything we currently have in our plant catalog.
Due to varying growing cycles, our entire plant catalog is not available year-round. You can create a WISHLIST and add any unavailable plants to it. This will save a personalized list of plants you are interested in. You can also select the "Notify Me When Back In Stock" button on individual plant pages. You will receive an email notification when the plant becomes available. We cannot accept orders for items that are not available at the time of ordering.
Plant Requirements and Types
The following is a list of general definitions and growing guidelines to help your plants do their best.
Soil:
Always amend your soil when transplanting, especially when planting into clay. For succulents, a handful or two of small (<1/4") lava rock will really help improve drainage and discourage rot. It is also a good idea to mulch, with compost, around, but not touching, the plant to hold in moisture and suppress weeds.
Sun:
- Full Sun: At least 6 hours of direct sunlight
- Part Sun: 4 - 6 hours of direct sunlight. PM sun okay
- Part Shade: 4 - 6 hours of direct sunlight. PM sun not okay
- Bright Shade: Dappled sun most of the day, some direct sunlight. AM sun is best
- Shade: Dappled sun OK. Some AM sun OK.
Water:
To establish new plants, water frequently at first, then decrease watering to 2-3 times a week for the first month. Low-No Summer water plants may need average water for up to a year.
- Moist: Soil never fully dries out
- Average: Water 1 - 4 times a month once established
- Low: 1 - 3 times a month once established
- No Summer Water: No summer water once established. May require average or moist conditions at other times of the year
Plant Types:
- Annual: A plant that completes its life cycle within one year
- Perennial: A plant that lives more than two years
- Biennial: A flowering plant that takes two years to complete its life-cycle
- Monocarpic: A perennial that dies after flowering
- Shrub: A perennial plant shorter than 20 ft with woody stems or branches
- Tree: A perennial plant with an elongated stem or trunk supporting branches. Ranges 15 - 60+ feet tall
