Description
A standout evergreen groundcover with texture, toughness, and a little fruiting surprise, Rubus calycinoides forms a dense, weed-suppressing mat of deep green, leathery leaves only about 3" tall and up to 4' wide. Also known as creeping raspberry or creeping bramble, it roots along its stems as it spreads, making it useful for slopes, containers, hanging baskets, and difficult garden edges.
This dependable groundcover is beautiful cascading over walls, softening hillsides, or filling spaces where a low, evergreen carpet is needed. In summer, small 1" flowers appear close to the foliage, followed by showy bright orange edible berries. In fall, the leaves can take on charming red and bronze tones, adding seasonal interest without fuss.
Plant Rubus calycinoides in sun to part shade with well-drained soil. It is tough, deer resistant, drought tolerant once established, and not invasive. Use it as a low-maintenance groundcover where beauty and practicality need to work together. Explore more useful spreaders in our Ground Covers collection.
