Star of Yelta Morning Glory, Purple Morning Glory

Deep, dramatic, and wonderfully old-fashioned, Ipomoea purpurea ‘Star of Yelta’ sends up vigorous twining vines covered in rich purple-violet trumpet blooms from summer into fall. Each flower opens with a glowing white throat and wine-red starburst markings that give the whole plant a jewel-toned, almost velvety look in morning light.

This is the classic climbing morning glory experience: fast, floriferous, and perfect for transforming a sunny fence, arbor, trellis, obelisk, or porch rail into a wall of color in a single season. Give it full sun, well-drained soil, and something sturdy to climb, then let it race upward and bloom its heart out.

‘Star of Yelta’ is an annual in frosty climates and may reseed where conditions suit it. For a tidier garden, remove spent seed pods before they drop; for a more natural cottage-garden effect, let a few ripen and surprise you next year.
