Cuphea
Firecracker

Bright, fiery, and full of hummingbird appeal, Cuphea ‘Firecracker’ brings vivid tubular flowers and fine-textured foliage to sunny garden spaces. This colorful cigar plant is loved for its warm red-orange blooms, long flowering season, and easygoing nature in borders, containers, pollinator gardens, and wildlife-friendly plantings. Cheerful, compact, and constantly busy with garden visitors, it adds a spark of color and movement wherever summer warmth is welcome.

Growing into a tidy, bushy plant, Cuphea ‘Firecracker’ works beautifully as a container accent, edging plant, low border, or lively filler among sun-loving perennials and drought-tolerant garden favorites. Its bright tubular flowers pair wonderfully with purple salvias, blue verbenas, lantanas, yarrow, gaura, ornamental grasses, lavender, and silver foliage, creating a layered, pollinator-friendly garden display with plenty of contrast and energy. Hummingbirds especially adore the blooms, while bees, butterflies, and beneficial insects add even more life to the planting.

Plant Cuphea ‘Firecracker’ in full sun to part sun with well-drained soil and moderate water while it settles in. Once established, this low-maintenance perennial shrub handles warm weather beautifully and keeps blooming with very little fuss. Colorful, durable, and wonderfully useful, it is a standout choice for adding long-lasting color and wildlife appeal to sunny spaces.
