San Miguel Island Buckwheat, Red-Flowered Buckwheat
This hard-to-find, choice and goof-proof evergreen Buckwheat from the Channel Islands thrives on neglect and prefers dry, clay soil! One of the best butterfly magnets around, it blooms June-October, providing lots of summer color for your habitat, native or dry garden. The shortest, most delicate looking of the Buckwheats, it’s also evergreen, forming a nice, low, dense 1’ x 3’ mound of spoon shaped leaves, green above and wooly below. Excellent for massing on dry hillsides. Deer resistant! Hardy to 15° F.

Attractive and Hearty!
My one buckwheat has grown into a 2.5 ft diameter mound. The leaves are attractive and it is covered in the beginnings of a show-stopping bloom. It's thriving with low water in zone 10b.

Zone 8b and doing well so far!
Love this plant so far. Already have some stalks w/ blooms forming in mid-June. Love color. Soil is mostly rocky and clay. Hopefully it will survive winters here. Crossing fingers!
