Our favorite Verbascum has sprouted candelabra, and honestly, we are not mad about it. Verbascum chaixii ‘Wedding Candles’ sends up branching spires of pristine white flowers, each bloom dressed with fuzzy purple stamens and bright orange anthers. The effect is elegant, airy, and just a little bridal—garden candles lit for a very fancy wildflower wedding.

Reaching roughly 3–4 feet tall, those branching wands supply vertical drama without creating a solid visual wall. They rise above lower perennials, grasses, and silver foliage, catching the eye from across the garden while remaining light enough to see through. The white, purple, and orange details are equally rewarding at close range and provide excellent material for informal bouquets.

‘Wedding Candles’ can flower from spring into summer, and removing spent spikes may encourage another round. Bees visit the many open flowers, deer tend to leave the plant alone, and established plants handle dry conditions with composure. It may also self-sow, repeating those luminous accents in pleasantly unexpected places.
