We are completely smitten with this rosy twist on the classic Black-Eyed Susan Vine. Thunbergia alata ‘Rose Sensation’ produces extra-large, dark-eyed flowers that open rich rose and soften to luminous pink as they age. One vine carries several shades at once, creating a wonderfully animated display against lush, arrow-shaped green foliage.

This fast twiner climbs about 5–8 feet in a season, quickly dressing obelisks, trellises, arbors, fences, and balcony railings. It is equally happy spilling from a large hanging basket or container when no support is offered. The abundant flowers keep hummingbirds and gardeners hovering nearby from summer into fall. In cold climates it performs as an exuberant annual; in mild Zones 9–11 it may remain evergreen and flower over a much longer season.

Give ‘Rose Sensation’ full sun to part shade, rich well-drained soil, regular water, and something slender enough for its stems to twine around. Afternoon shade can preserve the foliage in very hot inland gardens. A light trim redirects wandering growth and encourages branching without slowing the show.
