Let Salvia ‘Bee’s Bliss’ pour across the garden like a living silver tapestry. This wonderfully aromatic California native sage spreads in a broad, soft-textured sweep of silver-gray foliage, then lifts pale lavender flower spikes above the leaves from spring into early summer. In bloom, the entire plant seems veiled in a cool lilac haze, with bees and butterflies drifting through the flowers. Beautiful, fragrant, and serenely adapted to dry landscapes, it brings an unmistakable sense of California wildness to even the most composed planting.

Though only about 18–24 inches tall, a mature plant can spread an impressive 6–8 feet wide. Use it to soften a dry slope, flow over a retaining edge, carpet open ground beneath native shrubs and oaks, or knit together a naturalistic planting. The silvery foliage is a gorgeous companion for buckwheats, ceanothus, manzanitas, native grasses, and other sun-loving plants, and its aromatic leaves are generally less appealing to browsing deer.

Plant in sun or part shade with excellent drainage. Once established, it needs little summer water. Give it ample room to achieve its graceful spreading habit, and shear or selectively prune after flowering if a denser, more tailored outline is desired.
