Cobaea scandens
Cup & Saucer Vine

Large storybook blooms and astonishing speed make Cobaea scandens one of the most exciting flowering vines for vertical garden drama. Commonly called Cup and Saucer Vine, this fast-growing Mexican native can cover a fence, arbor, trellis, or pergola in a single season with lush foliage and fantastical 3.5" flaring purple bells.

The flowers are truly enchanting, with a cup-like bloom set into a saucer-shaped green calyx, giving the vine its perfect common name. Blooming for a long season in mild climates, Cup and Saucer Vine is ideal for screening, softening fences, climbing over garden structures, or creating a lush backdrop for cottage gardens and pollinator plantings. It climbs by tendrils borne at the ends of the leaves, so provide sturdy support early.

Plant Cobaea scandens in full sun to part shade with rich, well-drained soil and regular water. Fast, lush, and wonderfully theatrical, this flowering vine brings vertical enchantment in a hurry. Explore more climbers in our Vines collection.
