A beautiful and useful California Lilac groundcover for heavy clay! This native is found along the San Luis Obispo County coastline where it grows happily in clay soil. Growing to less than 1’ high and up to 8’ wide, it sports small, shiny, evergreen leaves. Fragrant periwinkle blue flowers emerge in spring attracting a host of pollinators. Deer and drought tolerant. In mild climates it thrives in full sun to part shade with little supplemental summer water once established. In hotter and dryer climates it benefits from part shade and occasional deep summer water. An excellent choice for under native oaks or pines.
