Luscious, dark, and wonderfully dramatic, Viola ‘Black Accord’ brings velvety pansy magic to cool-season gardens. Its 2-inch flowers vary from nearly black to the deepest luminous purple, so a planting has subtle movement rather than reading as one flat dark patch. A tiny golden eye glints from the center, just enough light to make the petals look even inkier.

Compact plants grow about 6–8 inches tall and wide, perfect for pathway edges, window boxes, small pots, and the front of a border. Pair them with cream, apricot, chartreuse, pale yellow, or silver foliage for bold contrast, or combine them with burgundy and smoky violet for a deliciously moody composition. The flowers are also charming in tiny posies and as a dark accent in seasonal containers.

Give ‘Black Accord’ full sun during cool weather or part shade where conditions become warm, along with rich, well-drained soil and regular water. Remove spent flowers to keep the compact plants blooming and tidy. Like most pansies, it performs best from fall through spring in mild climates and during spring and fall where summers are hot.
