Description
Striking color, unusual texture, and almost instant garden drama — Senecio mandraliscae brings all three in one wonderfully sculptural succulent. This South African beauty forms a fast-spreading groundcover of upward-curving, blue-gray “fingers” that weave together into a cool, modern carpet of color. Growing about 1' tall and spreading up to 3' across, it is especially eye-catching along walkways, patios, dry borders, rock gardens, and sunny slopes.
Also known as Blue Chalk Sticks, Senecio mandraliscae is a fabulous choice for water-wise landscapes and container plantings where bold foliage matters as much as flowers. Its powdery blue color pairs beautifully with terracotta pots, gravel mulch, dark foliage, orange blooms, silver companions, and architectural succulents.
Plant Senecio mandraliscae in full sun with sharply drained soil. Heat tolerant, drought tolerant, deer resistant, and hardy to about 15–20 degrees F, this low-maintenance succulent can also make a striking houseplant in bright light. Clip back as needed to keep it compact and tidy.
