Lathyrus odoratus
Beaujolais

Rich, moody, and deliciously dramatic, Lathyrus odoratus ‘Beaujolais’ is a striking sweet pea vine with deep maroon-black blooms that bring old-fashioned fragrance and velvety color to the spring garden. This annual climbing vine is perfect for trellises, fences, obelisks, arbors, and large containers where its twining stems can climb and show off those sumptuous flowers.

Also known as Beaujolais Sweet Pea, this beauty adds wonderful vertical interest to cottage gardens, cutting gardens, fragrant flower borders, and romantic seasonal plantings. The dark wine-colored blooms are fabulous for bouquets, especially when paired with pale pink, cream, lavender, apricot, or silvery companions. Plant it where you can enjoy the scent up close, and keep cutting flowers to encourage even more blooms.

Plant Lathyrus odoratus ‘Beaujolais’ in full sun to light afternoon shade with rich, well-drained soil and regular water. Provide support early, and let this fragrant sweet pea vine climb, bloom, and steal the show. Explore more fragrant favorites in our Lathyrus - Sweet Pea collection.
