Hollyhock ‘Mars Magic’ brings brilliant red flowers and true perennial performance to the cottage garden. Unlike many old-fashioned hollyhocks that behave as biennials, Alcea rosea ‘Mars Magic’ returns reliably, producing multiple upright stems from the base for a fuller, more graceful silhouette.

Growing 5–6' tall and up to 5' wide, this red hollyhock makes a bold vertical statement without usually needing staking. From early summer into fall, it sends up glowing red blooms that look fabulous along fences, at the back of borders, in pollinator gardens, and mixed with salvias, foxgloves, yarrow, roses, and ornamental grasses. The long bloom season and strong color make it a true garden standout.

Plant Hollyhock ‘Mars Magic’ in full sun with rich, compost-amended, well-drained soil for the most gorgeous show. This variety is substantially more rust resistant than many traditional hollyhocks and can be long-lived, often performing for several years. Cut back to the base in winter.
