Like ribbons of sunlight spilled across the spring hills of California, Eschscholzia californica ‘Orange’ glows with clear, satiny blooms above finely cut blue-green foliage. This is the iconic California Poppy in its classic color: vivid, warm, and instantly recognizable, yet never too formal for a loose border, meadow planting, sunny slope, or even a tough parking strip.

The silky flowers open to the sun and seem almost illuminated from within. Plants form airy mounds about 12–18 inches tall, with enough movement to mingle naturally among grasses and other wildflowers. Pair it with Baby Blue Eyes for the quintessential blue-and-orange California spring, or let it blaze through lavender, white, silver, and soft yellow companions.

Blooming generously from spring into summer, this native is happiest when not overmanaged. It tolerates lean soil, asks for little water once established, and may return in cheerful drifts when allowed to set seed. After flowering, let plants dry down naturally or cut them back when fresh basal growth appears. Deer generally leave the foliage alone.
