Description
California Poppy ‘Champagne’ brings bubbles without the bottle. Its semi-double flowers open in pale apricot-pink and gradually soften to a creamy champagne glow, creating a luminous blend of blush, peach, and ivory above finely cut gray-green foliage. The effect is elegant without becoming fussy—silky California wildflower charm dressed for a garden party. Repeated in a loose sweep, the pale blooms read as flickers of warm light rather than a solid block of color.
Plants form airy mounds about 12–18 inches tall, useful in sunny borders, containers, dry gardens, and native-inspired drifts. The pale coloring is especially effective beside blue, lavender, burgundy, silver, soft yellow, or darker orange companions, where it can brighten the planting without competing for attention.
Flowers arrive from spring into summer, opening generously in bright conditions and drawing visiting pollinators. Like other California Poppies, ‘Champagne’ prefers not to be overindulged. Sun, drainage, and a light hand with water are more useful than rich treatment, and established plants can handle lean soil and dry conditions with characteristic composure.
Allow a few seedpods to mature if you would enjoy the possibility of another softly glowing display. Deer generally pass it by, leaving the party to gardeners and pollinators. Explore more California Poppies.
