Coral Canyon

Slender wands of coral-pink flowers give Coral Canyon twinspur a light, dancing presence at the front of a border. Look closely and each little bloom reveals a darker pink center, a generous lower lip, and the paired spurs behind the flower that inspired its common name. Fine green foliage keeps the effect airy even when the stems are generously dotted with blossoms.

This South African perennial was introduced through Plant Select as Coral Canyon®, the trade name for ‘P009S’. It generally reaches 12–18 inches tall and about 10–18 inches wide, with its main display running from early summer toward autumn frost. Tuck it beside stones, repeat it along a sunny path, or let its loose flowering stems soften a mixed container. The small flowers offer a lovely contrast to bolder leaves without hiding their neighbors. Find more companions in our perennials and biennials collection.

Choose sun to part sun and freely draining loam or sandy soil; heavy, wet clay is a poor fit. Water regularly while roots establish, then adjust irrigation to the weather and soil rather than keeping the ground constantly wet. A conservative hardiness range is USDA Zones 5–8. Cut old stems back in spring, and give a light midsummer trim if growth becomes floppy to encourage a tidier flush of flowers. The blooms also provide interest for visiting pollinators.
