Who doesn't melt for this "knock-your-socks-off" cottage garden classic (grown since 1596) with its big scrumptious flaring purple bells to 3" across held outwards on huge panicles to 3' tall? Top-of-the-line showiness beginning in late Spring or early Summer - cut them for bouquets or leave them and make your neighbors drool! Planted early they'll usually bloom in their first year in temperate climates, otherwise they'll bloom in year two. Easy - but do plant in rich, composty soil. Good in containers (15+gal). Butterflies and hummers!
