Abutilon striatum, commonly called Redvein Indian Mallow or flowering maple, is a dazzling shrub for gardeners who love color, height, and hummingbird action. Its 2" golden-peach, bell-shaped flowers are boldly veined in red and held in charming calyces, dangling like jeweled ornaments from upright, branching stems.

In mild USDA Zones 9–11, this fast-growing abutilon can bloom nearly year-round, bringing warm tropical-looking color to shade gardens, side yards, fences, large containers, and espalier plantings. In warm, mild climates it commonly reaches 8–10 feet, while annual pruning can keep it smaller and fuller. Pinching the tips encourages an even bushier shape, while the small maple-like evergreen leaves keep the plant handsome between bloom flushes.

In ordinary garden conditions, expect roughly 8–10 feet unless pruning keeps it smaller. The pendant bells are best viewed from below or at eye level, making this an especially pleasing shrub beside steps, a raised terrace, or a path used every day.
