Description
One of the coolest plants we can grow on the West Coast, Echium wildpretii is pure otherworldly garden architecture. Commonly called Tower of Jewels, this dramatic Canary Islands native forms a bold silver-green rosette, then sends up a towering conical spire of glistening reddish-pink flowers that can reach up to 8' tall.
When in bloom, Tower of Jewels is impossible to ignore and wildly popular with bees, hummingbirds, and garden visitors. It is spectacular in dry gardens, coastal plantings, large borders, dramatic containers, and architectural landscapes where a single plant can become a true focal point. Deer resistant, bug resistant, and drought tolerant once established, it brings both toughness and theatrical flair.
Plant Echium wildpretii in full sun with excellent drainage and avoid overly rich, wet soil. Give it room, admire the rosette, then prepare for the towering floral spectacle. Bold, rare, and unforgettable, this is a plant with serious presence. Explore more dramatic shrubs and trees in our Echium collection.

Arrived healthy---and good looking---but it's still quite a baby:) Looking forward to seeing it grow up to it's full 6 ft size---but it's going to be a while:)
The plants arrived not healthy and 2
Of them didn’t make it and end up going all brown after 2 days.
I'm on the Central Coast of CA in Arroyo Grande. This is spectacular from start to finish but you must be patient for sure! I got a couple of babies from my first one that even survived replanting and are just starting to get tall. It is an other worldly plant, just amazing to witness. It took about a year and a half and now the babies are taking longer but are worth the wait.
I bought three of these, afew years ago. Two were given to gardening friends. One, I kept. I planted it with other succulents in my Moss Beach garden and it took over a year and a half before it sent up a spike , but it was worth the wait for this fabulous showy plant. Here on the San Mateo County Coastside, one sees the purple & blue ones lining the road sides. They naturally seem to replenish themselves every year, but mine did not set any seed, so I may just have to purchase another one. Echium wildpretii will not disappoint, but you must be patient!
