Knautia macedonica

Airy, crimson, and wonderfully informal, Knautia macedonica is a pollinator garden favorite with deep red, pincushion-like blooms that seem to float above the border on slender stems. Blooming over a long season, this easy perennial brings a light, naturalistic feel to cottage gardens, meadow-style plantings, cutting gardens, and mixed perennial borders.

Growing about 2–3' tall, Macedonian Scabious has an open, graceful habit that makes it perfect for weaving through other plants rather than sitting stiffly in one spot. Its rich crimson-red flowers create gorgeous contrast with ornamental grasses, soft pastel blooms, silver foliage, salvias, yarrow, and airy wildflowers. Bees and butterflies visit the nectar-rich blooms in abundance, adding even more movement and life to the garden.
