Description
We love the ‘Halo’ hollyhocks for their bushy habit, simultaneous spiking talent, improved rust resistance, and distinctly perennial tendencies, and ‘Halo Cerise’ may be the merriest of the lot. Rose-pink single flowers, each dramatically ringed around a deep maroon center, climb tall stems like a series of hand-painted targets for passing bees.
Growing about 5–7 feet tall, Alcea rosea ‘Halo Cerise’ supplies classic cottage-garden architecture without looking heavy. Use it along fences and walls, at the back of a sunny border, or threaded through a cutting and pollinator garden. The open blooms are lovely with salvias, yarrow, catmint, foxgloves, poppies, roses, and airy ornamental grasses.
Give it full sun, rich well-drained soil, regular water while establishing, and good air circulation. Stake in exposed sites before the stems become top-heavy. Deadhead for a tidier display and possible continued flowering, or allow several pods to ripen if you welcome seedlings. Water at soil level when practical and remove tired lower leaves to reduce rust pressure. Tall, cheerful, and beautifully old-fashioned without being stuffy, it is a standout in our Hollyhock collection.
