In general, YES! Our outdoor succulents flourish in even the poorest soil conditions and need little water. They need at least 6 hours of full sun daily to maintain their health and stunning appearance. Whether you grow them in pots, rock gardens, ground covers, or landscapes, growing and caring for succulent outdoor plants is easy. Ensure not to over-water your succulents and pay attention to any varieties that become invasive. You always want to preserve diversity in your garden.

Some of our favorite, more unusual or rare outdoor succulents plants are - Agave ovatifolia ‘Frosty Blue,’ Crassula Ursula ‘Campfire,’ Echeveria elegans "Mexican Snowball," Kalanchoe panamensis, Lampranthus aureus ‘Orange Form,’ Lampranthus sp. ‘Pink Kaboom,’ Mangave ‘Lavender Lady,’ and Oscularia Caulescens. Availability will vary depending on the season and crop size.

Our easiest-to-grow outdoor succulents are selected aloes and certain sedums and delospermas. For instance, our Delosperma ‘Hot Pink Wonder’ is a great option for beginning gardeners! It is an easy-to- grow outdoor succulent plant and ground cover with vibrant, “wow-worthy” pink and yellow blooms that will attract lots of bees and butterflies.

Whether or not succulents can survive outside in winter depends on the type of succulent and the climate. Many succulents are not frost-tolerant and need protection in colder temperatures, which you can provide by keeping them indoors. However, some species, such as Sedum and Echeveria, are more cold-hardy and can survive outdoors in winter.

You can plant different succulents together, but ensure they have similar light and water needs. Grouping plants with additional requirements might make it challenging to care for them properly. You can also pair succulents with annual and perennial plants to create a more diverse and colorful garden.

Growing outdoor succulent plants is amazingly simple and easy, even if you are not an expert. Planting succulents outside gives them more growing space than an average indoor succulent plant. Large succulent plants, like Agave, are aesthetically pleasing and add height and color to your garden.

1. Watering: Water outdoor succulents only when the soil is completely dry because they tend to retain moisture. Watering succulents should be done about once a week in hot, dry climates or less frequently in cooler or cloudier areas. Always check the soil moisture before watering.
2. Sunlight: Most succulents thrive in bright, indirect sunlight. While they enjoy sunlight, intense direct sun, especially in hot climates, can cause sunburn. Some species might need partial shade to protect them from the harsh afternoon sun. For example, some Crassula or Jade plants need proper sunlight, while Aeonium only needs partial sunlight.
3. Temperature - If you plan to plant succulents, it is best to do so in higher zones ranging from seven to nine or ten. Make sure to check your zone before starting your succulent garden. For instance, Aloe is a cactus-like plant that prefers hot, dry climates.
4. Soil - Well-draining soil is ideal for outdoor succulents. Plant a cactus or succulent mix or add sand to regular garden soil to improve drainage. In some cases, outdoor succulents might benefit from a side a compost in the Spring.

Some succulents have medicinal properties, including Aloe, Agave, Crassula (Jade Plant), and Echeveria.
