Description
Have you grown Gilia tricolor yet? Oh, but you must. Commonly known as Bird’s Eyes Gilia, this charming California native annual is easy, floriferous, pollinator-friendly, and full of springtime sweetness. Bushy, ferny upright stems carry hundreds of entrancing 1/2" flowers in soft light blue to violet, each one set off by powder-blue stamens, a sunny yellow throat, and a dark purple ring that gives the blooms their delightful “bird’s eyes” look.
Growing about 24" tall and 18" wide, Bird’s Eyes Gilia brings airy texture and cottage garden charm to beds, borders, containers, wildflower gardens, and water-wise plantings. Bees, hoverflies, and butterflies happily visit the nectar-rich flowers, while gardeners love its lovely chocolate scent, easygoing nature, and usefulness in old-fashioned bouquets. It is magical with roses and beautiful with California poppies, calendula, clarkia, and other native annuals.
Plant Gilia tricolor in full sun with well-drained soil. Once established, it is drought tolerant, neglect tolerant, and may self-sow where happy. Explore more delicate native annuals in our Gilia collection.

What is this white-flowered plant?
Lovely on its own, I have also planted Gilia with the combination shown here with Nemophila and Eschscholzia Alba and its absolutely enchanting.
