Description
Silvery, stately, and beautifully wild, Lupinus sericatus, commonly known as Cobb Mountain Lupine, is a California native perennial with soft silvery-green foliage and upright spikes of violet-blue flowers in spring. Its cool-toned blooms and refined leaves bring a meadow-like charm to dry gardens, native plantings, and naturalistic borders.
Native to serpentine soils, Cobb Mountain Lupine thrives in lean, well-drained conditions where richer, fussier plants may struggle. Growing about 1–2' tall, it is especially useful in full-sun wildflower gardens, rocky slopes, pollinator plantings, and low-water landscapes. Bees and beneficial insects visit the pea-like flowers, while the blue-violet color pairs beautifully with golden poppies, white wildflowers, yarrow, native grasses, and buckwheats.
Plant Lupinus sericatus in full sun with excellent drainage and avoid overly rich or soggy soil. Resilient, visually rewarding, and deeply California in spirit, this native lupine brings soft silver texture and spring color. Explore more favorites in our Lupinus - lupine (Perennial) collection.
