Description
Easy, easy, easy — and almost ever-blooming, Tagetes lemmonii is a wonderfully useful shrubby marigold with bright yellow flowers and fragrant foliage. Also known as Mexican bush marigold or Lemmon’s marigold, this generous plant can flower nearly year-round in mild climates, with an especially dazzling display in winter.
Growing into a somewhat sprawling shrub about 4' tall and 6' wide, Tagetes lemmonii carries finely cut leaves known for their musky mint scent. The 2" marigold-like blooms are a valuable food source for butterflies and bees during cooler months, making it a great choice for pollinator gardens, dry borders, difficult slopes, and low-maintenance landscapes.
Plant Mexican bush marigold in full sun with well-drained soil. It tolerates clay and fairly low-fertility soils, and once established for a year, it becomes drought tolerant and exceptionally deer resistant. Prune anytime to shape or control size, wearing protection if sensitive to foliage oils. Explore more sunny favorites in our Marigold collection.

I planted these in dappled sunlight at the edges of my oak trees. They grew quickly. I've had constant blooms on them winter through summer. The leaves look ragged after a while, need light pruning.
