Description
Recommended as one of the best pollinator plants for native bees and honeybees, Phacelia ciliata is a fast, easy California native annual with real garden charm. Also known as Great Valley Phacelia, it forms dense, ferny mounds about 16" tall and wide, then bursts into clusters of slightly cupped lavender-blue flowers from spring into summer.
This self-sowing wildflower is a wonderful choice for California native annual plantings, meadow gardens, pollinator borders, habitat gardens, and sunny open spaces where bees, butterflies, and beneficial insects can visit often. The blooms are lightly scented with a playful grape-soda fragrance, adding one more reason to plant it where you can enjoy the show up close.
Plant Phacelia ciliata in full sun with well-drained soil. It adapts to many soil types, including clay-ish soil, and is deer resistant. Sensitive gardeners should wear gloves and long sleeves when handling, as the fine hairs may cause skin irritation.
