Description
Probably the easiest lupine you can grow, Lupinus succulentus brings classic California wildflower beauty with impressive speed and generosity. Also known as arroyo lupine or succulent lupine, this native annual can quickly reach 3–4' tall in good soil, carrying masses of fragrant bloom spikes that bring spring gardens to life for months.
The flowers range from rich blue to lavender-purple and are held above lush green foliage, creating a bold meadow-style display in native plant gardens, pollinator borders, sunny slopes, and cottage plantings. Bees adore the pea-like blooms, and gardeners love the way one planting can create a full, natural look with very little fuss. It is especially beautiful with California poppies, clarkias, baby blue eyes, tidy tips, grasses, and other annual wildflowers.
Plant Lupinus succulentus in full sun with well-drained soil. Let plants set seed if you want future volunteers. Fragrant, fast, and wonderfully easy, this arroyo lupine is pure California spring abundance. Explore more favorites in our Lupinus - Lupine (Annual) collection.
