Sweet, sturdy, and full of personality, Silene maritima ‘Ice Cups’ is a white-blooming sea campion that works beautifully as a sunny groundcover. In spring, it forms a mat of slender gray-green leaves, followed by masses of inch-long tubular flowers that open into crisp white, cheerful faces.

Also known as bladder campion, this vigorous perennial is native to the U.K., where it grows on cliffs, rocky outcrops, and sand dunes. That toughness makes ‘Ice Cups’ a great choice for dry garden beds, rock gardens, sunny slopes, hanging baskets, mixed containers, and places where you want a low, spreading plant with charm and resilience. Hummingbirds visit the flowers, and deer tend to leave it alone.

Plant Silene maritima ‘Ice Cups’ in sun to light shade with poor to fertile, well-drained soil. Once established, it is very drought tolerant.
