Description
Colorful, compact, and absolutely hummingbird-approved, Cuphea ‘Hummingbird’s Lunch’ is a nectar-rich cigar plant that has been wowing gardeners since its 2020 debut. This tidy shrub grows about 2' tall and 3' wide, filling out with dark green leaves and an endless summer parade of reddish-pink tubular flowers tipped in yellow and marked with burgundy throats.
Also known as a cuphea or cigar plant, this cheerful bloomer is a fabulous choice for pollinator gardens, sunny borders, patio containers, and low-maintenance shrub plantings. The 1.5" flowers keep coming nonstop until first frost, drawing hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies in happy numbers. Its warm flower color pairs beautifully with salvias, ornamental grasses, yarrow, lavender, and other long-blooming perennials.
Plant Cuphea ‘Hummingbird’s Lunch’ in full sun to part shade with well-drained soil and regular water for best bloom. Easy, floriferous, and wonderfully useful, it is a bright little feast for garden visitors. Explore more hummingbird favorites in our Cuphea - Cigar Plants collection.

I’ve had Hummingbird’s Lunch in a previous order a couple of years ago. While it wasn’t the first time I had a Cuphea in my garden, I can definitely say the hummers seemed happier with this variety than others I’ve had, which is why I ordered it again this year!
It's a beautiful plant in great condition.
The plant arrived in god condition and has been growing nicely. Healthy plant ready for the hummers!
They look great and very healthy plants. Packed real good and protected.
I love this Cuphea. I’ve had it for many years in a pot. It blooms all year round. I cut it back in late winter. My hummingbirds love it
