Tough as nails and beautifully useful, Lessingia filaginifolia ‘Silver Carpet’ is a California native groundcover with a low, spreading habit and shimmering silver foliage. Also known as California aster or silver carpet lessingia, it forms a dense, weed-suppressing mat only a few inches tall while spreading 3' or more across, making it a fabulous choice for parking strips, dry garden beds, slopes, pathway edges, and coastal plantings.
Summer into fall brings a sweet show of 1" lavender daisy flowers on short stems, adding soft color above the silvery carpet. This tough native plant tolerates clay, heat, drought, salt spray, and deer, and it looks especially beautiful trailing over the edge of a bed or weaving beneath oaks. Butterflies appreciate the seasonal blooms, too.
Plant Lessingia filaginifolia ‘Silver Carpet’ in full sun to part shade with well-drained soil. Provide occasional summer water inland for the best appearance. Explore more durable garden favorites in our Best Selling - Perennials & Biennials collection.
