Profuse, glowing red trumpets and a handsome ground-hugging habit make Zauschneria californica var. latifolium ‘Everett’s Choice’ one of the most useful late-season California native perennials for dry gardens. Also known as California fuchsia or hummingbird flower, it bursts into bloom from late summer into fall, just when the garden could use a fiery little encore.
Dense, shimmery gray-green foliage spreads quickly by the roots to form a rounded mat about 6" tall and 4–5' wide, perfect for low-maintenance slopes, driveway edges, pathways, raised beds, and spilling over walls. The brilliant 1.5" trumpet flowers are a hummingbird magnet, bringing motion, color, and wild delight to water-wise plantings.
Plant ‘Everett’s Choice’ California fuchsia in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil. Tough, vigorous, heat tolerant, drought tolerant, and deer resistant, it appreciates at least occasional summer water for the lushest display. Cut back to about 1" in winter. Explore more habitat-friendly favorites in our California Native Perennials collection.

It's Aug 3 and the 1st flower appeared. Crazy neon orange red color! Beautiful & unique! The lovely fuzzy gray green foliage is beautiful as well. If it survives winter, will be buying more for sure.
