Description
Architectural, aromatic, and wonderfully long-blooming, Salvia sclarea ‘Piemont’ is a robust clary sage that brings cottage garden presence in a big, beautiful way. Starting in late spring, arresting 30" candelabras of two-toned lavender and white flowers rise from showy violet-purple calyces, creating a display that lasts for months.
Even after the flowers fade, the colorful calyces keep the show going into fall. Large fuzzy heart-shaped leaves add bold texture and a strong herbal fragrance, making ‘Piemont’ Clary Sage a standout for cottage gardens, pollinator plantings, herb gardens, dry borders, and architectural perennial beds. Growing up to about 4' tall and 3' wide, it attracts butterflies and bees, resists deer, and may self-sow where happy.
Plant Salvia sclarea ‘Piemont’ in full sun to part shade with well-drained soil. It is not fussy, but performs best with compost and some summer water. Deadhead regularly for the longest bloom show. Explore more fragrant favorites in our Salvia - Sage collection.
