Description
Wild, scarlet, and wonderfully fluttery, Greek Poppy is one of those cool-season annual poppies that brings instant wildflower romance to the garden. Slender stems carry a profusion of bright, true red flowers over a long bloom period, each 2.5" bloom marked with dramatic black spots near the center.
Plant early and this Greek poppy forms a neat mound about 20" tall and wide, with airy, almost ferny foliage and plenty of brilliant color. It is stunning in cottage gardens, meadow-style plantings, cutting gardens, and sunny borders, especially when paired with baby blue eyes, meadowfoam, larkspur, bachelor buttons, or soft white and blue spring flowers. Even a few plants can create a vivid, wildflowery display.
Plant Greek Poppy in full sun with well-drained soil during the cool season. In mild climates, plant fall through early spring; in colder areas, plant after the last frost. Let a few seed pods mature if you want this charming annual poppy to return. Explore more dazzling cool-season bloomers in our Papaver - Poppy collection.
