Loads of fragrant soft pink trumpets and elegant finely cut foliage make Incarvillea arguta, the Himalayan Gloxinia, a rare and sophisticated highlight for the summer garden. This Chinese sub-shrub forms a bushy plant about 3' tall and wide, with clusters of flaring pink blooms held on graceful stems above delicate green leaves.
Also known as hardy gloxinia, Incarvillea arguta brings a refined, unexpected look to perennial borders, cottage gardens, collector plantings, large containers, and sunny mixed beds. The trumpet-shaped flowers add a soft romantic touch, while the finely textured foliage keeps the plant looking elegant even between bloom flushes. It pairs beautifully with salvias, grasses, yarrow, delphiniums, roses, and silver foliage.
Plant Incarvillea arguta in full sun to part shade with rich, well-drained soil and regular water during active growth. Unusual, fragrant, and gracefully floriferous, Himalayan Gloxinia is a lovely choice for gardeners who enjoy plants with a little rarity and refinement. This is a non-stop bloomer that loves its morning sun location. Seems to be resistant to slugs/snails/pests. Gets bigger than I'd anticipated, so I had to move it, but I love it!
I purchased one from Annies about ten years ago - still beautiful and going strong.
