Description
Easy as pie and loaded with bloom, Gilia capitata, the Blue Thimble Flower, is a cheerful California native annual with months of pollinator-friendly color. Bushy, multi-branching plants reach about 15" tall and 12" wide, with dense, ferny, almost lacy green foliage that looks fresh and soft in spring plantings.
From spring well into summer, Blue Thimble Flower produces scented lavender-blue blooms held in rounded spherical clusters. The flowers are loved by butterflies, bees, and other beneficial insects, making this gilia a wonderful choice for native annual gardens, wildflower borders, meadow-style plantings, and habitat-friendly beds. It combines beautifully with tidy tips, clarkias, phacelia, poppies, grasses, and other easy California wildflowers.
Plant Gilia capitata in full sun for the best display, with well-drained soil and average garden care. Allow a few blooms to go to seed if you would like it to self-sow and return in future seasons. Explore more airy native annuals in our Gilia collection.
