Description
Showy, airy, and absolutely beloved by pollinators, Eriogonum nudum ‘Ella Nelson’s Yellow’ creates a cloud of electrifying yellow pom-poms above low native foliage. This delightful naked buckwheat selection was found by Eric Nelson and named in honor of his grandmother, a lifelong gardener — a sweet story for a seriously useful California native perennial.
Massive sprays of flowers can reach about 3' tall and 2' wide, bursting into bloom in spring and continuing through summer above a low mound of foliage. As the season shifts, the blooms age into rich rusty red and golden umber tones, adding even more texture and interest. Excellent for native plant gardens, dry borders, rocky slopes, pollinator gardens, and habitat plantings, it attracts bees, butterflies, and beneficial insects in abundance.
Plant Eriogonum nudum ‘Ella Nelson’s Yellow’ in full sun with very well-drained soil. Drought tolerant and easy once established, it is happiest in open, lean, rocky conditions. Explore more habitat-friendly plants in our California Native Perennials collection.
