Description
Sculptural, silvery, and unmistakably coastal, Dudleya caespitosa is a California native succulent with elegant rosettes of powdery blue-green to silver leaves. The low clusters hug the ground with a refined, living-jewel quality, making this a beautiful choice for rock gardens, coastal plantings, succulent collections, troughs, and containers.
Also known as sea lettuce dudleya, this drought tolerant native brings a clean, modern look to dry gardens and pairs beautifully with other succulents, native sages, buckwheats, sea thrift, gravel mulch, and silver foliage plants. In spring to early summer, tall stems rise above the rosettes carrying soft yellow, star-shaped flowers that attract pollinators and add a delicate contrast to the bold foliage.
Plant Dudleya caespitosa in full sun to part shade with excellent drainage and minimal water once established. Protect from soggy soil, especially during warm weather. Slow-spreading, low-growing, and wonderfully distinctive, it brings a touch of wild California coastline to the garden. Explore more sculptural favorites in our Succulents collection.
