Perfectly content in dry shade, Arthropodium cirratum is a New Zealand native we adore for its toughness, elegance, and year-round good looks. Also known as Renga Lily, this low-maintenance evergreen perennial forms dense clumps of glossy, elongated leaves about 2' tall and wide, making it a superb choice for path edging, tree understory plantings, and difficult shady corners.
In summer, Renga Lily sends up graceful 2' sprays of white orchid-like flowers, each ornamented with fuzzy pink and yellow stamens. The blooms are long lasting, lovely for cutting, and wonderfully showy against the lush foliage. Heat tolerant, drought tolerant, clay-ish soil tolerant, and salt spray tolerant, this is a hardworking plant with a surprisingly refined appearance.
Plant Arthropodium cirratum in part shade to shade with well-drained soil. It thrives with an annual side-dress of compost and can be cut back to about 1' tall whenever it needs refreshing. Hardy to about 15°F, it is a stellar dry shade perennial. Explore more favorites in our Best Selling - Perennials & Biennials collection.
