This incredibly lovely heirloom “Giant Larkspur” features densely populated 9-12” high spires of otherworldly greyish-mauve flowers, a color that just has to be seen to be appreciated! Semi-double to double, inch and a half flowers unfold like roses. Long an English garden staple, this 3-4’ high by 1’ wide hardy annual can bloom all Summer in cool coastal climates, but usually finished up mid-Summer in warmer areas. Its tall stately flower spikes make it an excellent vertical element for a sunny bed and it combines well with native annuals such as “Tidy Tips”, Clarkia, and “Cream Cups”. Bees and hummers love the flowers. Cut flowering stalks before individual florets begin to drop for graceful indoor bouquets. Flowers can also be air-dried for everlasting arrangements. Plant in fertile, well-drained soil. Seed is easily collected for next year’s planting.
