A bizarre Mediterranean Muscari that is a real conversation piece. This “Grape Hyacinth”, circa 1596, produces racemes of open mahogany-purple florets topped with a wispy tuft of closed bright blue purple florets - all atop an 8-16” high erect stem with an ample foliage clump. Blooms from April to May. Considered a culinary delight throughout much of the Mediteranean, the cooked bulbs are pickled and preserved in olive oil. Naturalizes readily, forming clusters over time. Provide well-drained fertile soil in full to partial sun. Deer and rodent resistant!!Excellent cut flowers.
