Usually found in the subalpine meadows & stream banks of California & other Western States, “Creeping Monkey” adapts well to lowland conditions as long as it is kept moist. It creeps by rhizomes & quickly forms a tight mat 1’ wide. The flower stems are 6” tall with 1-5 yellow monkey flowers per stem & in profusion the plant looks like a yellow carpet. May cross with Mimulus guttatus “Seep Monkey Flower”. It would be very suitable for a stream bank, the edge of a pond or a very well-watered pot. Surprisingly it is not cold tolerant unless covered by snow.
