You haven’t lived until you’ve grown this variegated “Japanese Iris”! Featuring especially large (4-6”) vivid purplish-wine flowers in early and midsummer and lovely fan-shaped variegated leaves, this water loving Iris is spectacular when in full bloom. Foliage clumps reach 2’ tall and flowers rise even further. Hailing not only from Japan but China, Korea and Russia, this beardless perennial Iris expands slowly via clumps, given regular water. The variegated leaves silvery appearance contrasts with the colorful, somewhat flattened flowers. Naturally grows near water or in moist soil, but is perfectly happy in an average water garden. Grow in acidic, organically rich, moisture-retentive soils. Clumps can be divided every three years, with rhizomes planted 2” deep in the fall. Attracts butterflies. Deer resistant.
