Delicious, reddish-purple flowers are 2” across, nicely rounded and beautifully contrasted with a crown of golden stamens. Outward facing, they rise up nicely above the large and lustrous, rich green (and evergreen) foliage, blooming Winter thru early Spring. The foliage forms a good sized, bushy clump to 2’ across and remains attractive year around, making a nice shade groundcover under trees or near the front porch. Highly drought tolerant and deer proof, native to the Mediterranean, “Lenten Rose” does especially well along our California coast, as it does not require cold Winter temps. Average to good, composty, garden soil with a topdressing of compost once a year for best show.
