Brilliant reddish-orange tubular flowers glow against bright green leaves on this handsome, rounded shrub native to Florida and N.E. South America. Blooming from Spring thru Fall with clusters of orangish-red flowers up to 1.5” long with golden throats held at the tips of branches. The flowers are hummingbird magnets and the small black edible fruits are popular with birds. Bright green 3-7” leaves are emerge covered in fine red hairs and, in late Fall, darken to a brownish-red before dropping. Vigorous and heat tolerant. It’s suitable for growing as an annual where not hardy, reaching 2-3’ tall and wide and flowering profusely. In frost-free zones it remains evergreen and can reach 12’ high and wide. In cold Winter areas it will often die back to the ground, returning in Spring and reaching up to 5’ high and wide. Plant in fertile, well-drained soil. Deer resistant.
