Talk about a curiosity! It’s an event when the Ferrarias bloom in the nursery & love them or hate them, I’ve yet to meet the person who doesn’t find these peculiar, wrinkled “Spider Irises” striking in some way. Ferraria ferrariola is a sea green, blueish, & yellow flowering species with a scent that’s described as almond or licorice like. Everyone’s nose is different, & some people think that Ferrarias smell revolting, but I think that they smell delectable. Each bloom lasts only a day, but are borne over a two month period. Summer dormant, but Ferrarias don’t seem to mind terribly if they get a little bit of Summer water – just don’t flood them! From South Africa. 6”-18” in height.
