One of the best CA natives to add to a sunny garden spot! This selection of “Eastern Mojave Buckwheat” boasts a low growing, spreading form 1’ high x 5’ wide with dark green needle-like leaves with silvery undersides. In Summer 4-6” wide clusters of tiny pink buds open to reveal creamy white blooms. The flowers persist well into the late Fall, gradually aging to a beautiful rust color. Bees and butterflies love the flowers and a variety of local birds eat its seeds. Perfect in a dry pollinator garden, or on a dry slope for erosion control. Once established it needs very little water. Adaptable to nearly every soil type and can really take the heat. Deer resistant. Despite its practicality, one look at this plant smothered in Summer flowers will make you appreciate it for its sheer beauty!
