This Central American shrub features perhaps the brightest red flowers of any plant I've ever grown. Clusters of slender 2” trumpet-shaped flowers appear in late spring and continue to flush out well into the fall. Hummingbirds love these flowers so be sure to situate it where you can enjoy their frequent visits. Plants are comprised of mid-green oval leaves and mature at 3-4' tall and wide. Whether you put it in the ground or feature it in your favorite decorative container, this is a plant you'll want to show off. Not needing much care - just a little water, some deadheading and occasional pruning – this hardy perennial will stay evergreen in zones 9b and higher. Plant it in full sun to light shade in fertile, well drained soil. Doesn't like excess moisture. Plants can be safely cut back in early spring to promote lush new growth. Generally left alone by deer.
