Dreamy & romantic combos you can plant now!
Pastel Paradise!
Pretty pastels mix and mingle in this sweetheart of a Spring garden featuring long-blooming California native wildflowers Nemophila menziesii "Baby Blue Eyes", Gilia tricolor "Bird's Eyes" and Eschscholzia californica ‘Alba’. Plant now for a beautiful bloom-at-the-same-time explosion come March/April! Supporting perennial castmates Aquilegia chrysantha 'Yellow Queen' and Dianthus gratianopolitanus 'Electra' round out the show, blooming well into Summer and beyond with deadheading.
Nemophila menziesii "Baby Blue Eyes"
Nemophila menziesii "Baby Blue Eyes"
Our favorite California native wildflower – the true blue color of a clear Springtime sky. We use it extensively to fill in and trail perfectly over the edge of all our beds. Self-sows!
Aquilegia chrysantha 'Yellow Queen'
The most bloomiferous AND longest blooming of Columbines! Vigorous and non-dwarfed (to 3' tall x 2' wide), it bears an awesome number of long spurred blooms Spring till mid-Summer. Fragrant!
Eschscholzia californica ‘Alba’ Gilia tricolor “Birds Eyes”
Eschscholzia californica ‘Alba’
Sophisticated creamy white blooms bring cool contrast for any other color in the garden, which is why it's our go-to Cal Poppy in our demonstration gardens. Self-sows! Deer and drought resistant.
Gilia tricolor “Birds Eyes”
Beloved by bees, you'll be amazed by the turquoise pollen they collect from foraging on this long-blooming, fragrant cutie. One of our easiest, most floriferous natives. Tolerant of neglect, reseeds!

Check out our VIDEO spotlighting even more of our favorite dream-team combinations. So many of these wonderful CA natives and Mediterranean annuals self-sow, which means you'll enjoy repeat performances next Spring and beyond!

For maximum happiness (yours AND the plants), be sure to give your hearty new friends well-draining and fertile soil (i.e.: NOT heavy clay). A 1" layer of compost on top of the soil just after planting will give them a much-appreciated boost and get them off to a good start.
